My Story
I became a first time Mum.
When I was pregnant with my first baby, I became deeply invested in preparing and shaping my birth experience. At 32 weeks, I attended a two-day Calmbirth® course and was struck by the sense of unity it created between my husband and I.
Those two days weren’t just educational, they enriched our conversations at home, helped us clarify our preferences for labour, birth and the start of our parenting journey, as well as arming my husband with a realistic understanding of the support I would need during labour. Calmbirth gave us confidence, strengthened our connection, and agency in our choices.
Since attending Calmbirth® in 2019, I’ve experienced two transformative, physiological births. These experiences solidified my belief in the power of preparation, informed choice, and relational, evidence-based support, inspiring me to bring the same guidance and confidence to the families I educate today at Calmbirth.
Then came breastfeeding in that first year
Breastfeeding was a whole new ball game, even as a Lactation Consultant and Maternal & Child Health Nurse. I found myself navigating the early months of feeding almost entirely on my own, which led to meticulously tracking every feed, constant worry about my milk supply and I even trialled a medication to boost it.
What I really needed was one trusted, consistent, cheerleading voice. I needed the care of an IBCLC Lactation Consultant, a go-to clinician I could touch base with throughout the changes, challenges, and milestones of that first year: the dynamic space of feeding, development, sleep, nutrition and attachment.
My first experience shaped the way I now support families, offering reliable guidance, reassurance, and expertise - being the cheerleader needed for beyond those first weeks is exactly the kind of support I hope to offer for every family I work with.
Two beautiful births and six years breastfeeding collectively
I’ve learned what it truly means to navigate parenthood with both knowledge and support. These personal experiences inform everything I do as a clinician working in the perinatal space. Walking the journey alongside families with empathy, insight, and a real raw understanding is what families need during these pivotal early months and years that follow.
With love, Amy
